DRAFT PLANNING FOR THE INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT OF
GUNTUR DISTRICT
Guntur town was the main head quarters for krishna district till the year1859. Later it has been shifted to Machilipatnam
from Guntur. Later in 1904 On 1st October Guntur District was formed with a combination of few taluks from Krishna District
and Nellore respectively. Guntur District was reorganised again after 66 years because of which in 1970 some parts of Bapatla,
Narasaraopet taluks and Ongole taluk have been removed from Guntur and were formed as Prakasam District. Our district was
formed Between the borders of Krishna, Nalgonda, Mahaboobnagar & Prakasam Districts. Our District is rich in natural resources
like Water, Fertile Land (BLACK SOIL) and Minerals. Though our district is equally potent with the availability of natural
resources like other districts, it is lagging behind in Development. The lands which are producing crops yielding gold mines
are getting depleted Day by day. Some of the taluks and mandals have become permanent name plates for poverty and hungry.
The gap/distance between the goods available in store and its consuming capacity is declining day by day. Without knowing
the reason for this we cannot progress for future. Because of this reason we made an attempt to study and understand in a
concrete and integrated manner.

From the observations Drawn from the above table we found that those areas which were found to be having Water resources
are first in development process. After this towns are ahead in development. According to the study, Atchempeta, Prathipadu,
Krosuru, Pedanandipadu, Machavaram, Yedlapadu etc Mandals were lagging behind in development. Though Guntur City is leading
in all aspects, Guntur rural area villages are reflecting in 17 th position due to lack of Water for cultivation. Veldurti,
Nujendla, Bollapalli, Durgi mandals have not gone to the last stage because of utilisation of under ground water resources.
Tadepali which is mostly like a village area, is far ahead in all aspects for development amongst all Mandals.
The main cause for backwardness are lackof utilisation of Water resources, Non-Industrialisation. Apart from developing
these resources, If we can build Pulichintala project along with canals, Converting Guntur branch canal as Pedanandipadu high
level channel, preserving Nallamala water by constructing a reservoir and converting water for cultivation and by constructing
Varikapudisela Lift many backward mandals will be covered by Irrigation facilities. Projects related to agriculture should
be given special encouragement, So that backward Mandals will be developed. Moralities should be framed to encourage for establishment
of Project units related to minerals which are available abundantly. Among the backward mandals we should identify those
areas where forests are existing and also small hubs should be located and proper drive to be given to the people living there
by giving loans and enhance their incomes.
